When I take my son to visit his father in Florida I ship our clothes. Two carry ones would cost $80. It costs $50 to ship and there is nothing like the freedom of not lugging a suitcase. My son is disabled and this is so worth it. Shipping back is always more because I’ll thrift my summer wardrobe while there. You’d be surprised how many sweaters are in Florida though.
My family has had a really rough year. We lost two family members and a beloved pet, and other small stresses. Your channel has given me a boost to be my old (55 year old) self. I love clothes and accessories, they help me be myself, I had lost that for quite a long time 😊
Accessories! At 70, finally understanding...have worn the basics forever(black and white tanks, Jean skirt), but that extra oomph comes from those accessories!
“What separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.” Steel Magnolias,
Never thought of wearing a silk scarf under my straw hat. Testing that out on my next trip to visit family!
BTW, my family, that lives next door (I'm 78), just invited me to a museum this afternoon, and I put on a scarf under my baseball cap. Looks great!
How did you know I was just obsessing over my vacation packing?
Another thing to do with a scarf: Tie it onto a purse/bag and just let it hang! That's done a lot in Italy, for example. Would not work with a very large scarf, more for smaller/medium I would say. Your bird scarf would be lovely draped on a purse.
Hi!perfect video at the perfect time:in 10 says i'm leaving for my one-month road trip around 5 nations here in Europe(Romania,Bulgaria,Serbia,Bosnia,Slovenia)in a small trolley every summer i nabage to fit all i cani beed in one month (consider i use lots of skincare and makeup) I feel so freeee:no choice no chores no responsabilities for a long month
One of the reasons this video is so unique and helpful is because Diana demonstrates the wisdom of NOT obsessing about our vacation wardrobe. We can dress in comfortable basics as a blank canvas and then use scarves, belts and jewelry to dramatize the look. We will look stylish and put together with much less effort and stress. Unless you’re at the beach or hiking in backcountry the total time, when a very casual look is functional, we can dress both stylishly and comfortably in most environments. Yes, I want to be comfortable when I travel, but I also want a unique look, a la Milan, not like just another American tourist in a tee shirt and shorts.
Weather is so critical. For a 2-week trip to the West Coast of Ireland I packed a waterproof (not water resistant) raincoat but I only brought one wool sweater. Not wanting to buy another sweater, I wore my one wool sweater every day and I smelled bad by the end of two weeks. No drycleaners and no way to dry the sweater if I washed and blocked it. And I needed to wear it every day under my coat. Subsequent years, I left the wool sweater at home and packed a washable full zip vest and full zip long sleeve jacket; and I wore vest and jacket under my raincoat. Did I mention that both trips were the last week in June and the first week in July. The temperatures rarely got above 10C/50F and there were no taxi cabs or local buses and it rained frequently. The second year, a long neck scarf absorbed a lot of rain that would have run down my back. A fleece lined nylon rain hat with strong under-chin tied kept my head warm and dry.
Best travel wardrobe video ever. Thank you.
This is a different approach than most I’ve seen. Makes wonderful sense! Thanks!
Love all the outfits and how they mix and match❤… very inspiring to see big changes with only scarfs and jewlry. Love it🥰♥️
I have overpacked so many times and was miserable because of it. My husband and I flew to NY for a week and shared a suitcase and it was wonderful!! I still did not need all the clothes I took but I did so well at eliminating a lot at the last minute while packing. I was so proud of Me😄 and enjoyed the trip much more.
This is what I do too! I usually pack white, gray, and black separates and add color with my scarves. I also buy scarves as gifts while on vacation. They are an easy gift and take no space.
I just love all these looks! You are brilliant!
Hi Diana, lovely clothes and brilliant ideas. Thank you 😊 xx
Wonderful video, Diana! I love all your videos, but this one is especially timely, cause I'm going on a trip across the country in a couple of weeks. Although I'll be staying with a friend, so will have access to washer/dryer, it still makes sense to take as little clothing as possible. I had already chosen the tops and bottoms I wanted, as all the tops go with at least 2 of the bottoms, to mix and match, but now I see I don't even need to bring that much. Next task: pare the tops and bottoms down, maybe add a wrap dress, and of course, way more scarves to the mix! THANK YOU SO MUCH! You're really great! You have a wonderful eye and fantastic taste, and although I'm not in agreement will everything you say matches, I still enjoy your fun and funky style!
Hi Diana, I have only just returned from a trip to Japan. Of course I overpacked, even after giving myself a stern lecture beforehand! I’m getting better though. My next trip will be next year to DC & New York (I live in Australia) & now thanks to your excellent advice, I think I just might have it nailed! Love your videos x
